Hi,

No, you can't change the boundaries of the dark green rectangle.

That is called an extended partition. Inside that you can make other "logical" partitions.

You can, of course, delete the Extended partition - but you don't want to do that or you will lose your data.

You could use a third party bootable partition manager.

Rive0108 has provided one here

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/163304-dual-boot-using-free-partitioning-software.html

After you have burned the cd ( do not format the cd - if autoplay pops up, just close it), you need to boot into it.

It should allow you to change the Extended partition to a Primary one, extend it to incorporate the free space ( currently showing in light green ). Then merge extra space from that onto your C partition.

Hi,

You can do partitioning during install from the dvd, but you will only be able to increase that first partition by deleting the Multimedia (extended) partition.

If you can copy anything you want to keep onto an external HD first, then it will not be a problem to repartition during installation.

You can copy your stuff back afterwards.

Hi,

If you can copy the data you want to keep to an external Hd, then you will not need to reinstall.

After you have copied off your data, go into Disk Management.

Rt click the multimedia partition and Delete. Then rt click the extended partition itself and Delete.

You will now have a lot of unallocated on the right of the C partition.

Rt click the C partition, select Extend and type in how much , e.g. 10gb is 10,000mb. Then click Finish.

You will still have a lot of unallocated space, so rt click it and select New simple Volume, tick Quick format , and the drive letter it allocates by default should be fine.

It takes a couple of minutes to do that. When done, Restart your pc.

You can then copy back your data onto your brand new partition - which will be a Primary this time - dark blue like your C partition.

Hope it helps
