All I could do at this juncture, is to question some senior members and ask them to come and post. I am out of solutions. My ace in the hole was to change the box about reading plain text.

I know, and I truly wish that I could help. Our reward for helping out on the boards is the satisifaction that we feel when we can help someone. I was really happy this morning, when I got the message that we found the solution. I will ask around while trying to sort it out myself.

Sorry but you have me confused, you stated at first it was a problem when you clicked in Windows Mail then corrected that to having a problem with hyperlinks in mail.
We now have Wordpad and MS Works in the mix and I don't see what they have to do with Windows Mail.

Perhaps I'm being thick  but could you post back exactly what the problem is and in what program you get the problem and if you could perhaps take a snip of the error window and post that it would help the experts see what you are seeing.
If you need help using the Snipping Tool someone will give you the details.
Thank you.

OK I'm by no means an expert here, plus I'm using Windows 7 so my Vista knowledge is rusty but lets start at the beginning and see what we can do.

As far as I know Wordpad is not an email program although you can send via email which I expect would just bring up your email program so you could attach the Wordpad document.
What version of MS Works are you using, that would I think only have a version of Word which is another type of document writing program.

To my mind they shouldn't have anything to do with reading and writing emails in your email program.
Which email program do you use, if it's the one that came with Vista that is Windows Mail but if you downloaded anything from Windows Live it could be Windows Live Mail, which has more features than the built in mail program.

If you have been using Windows Live Mail have you tried the suggestion that was made of uninstalling it then downloading and installing a fresh copy in case the version you have got borked the last time ?

Sorry if this doesn't help you much but as I said I'm no expert but just trying to clear things up a bit.:)

Ok, What I have is Microsoft Office Professional 2007. It comes with Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Outlook 2007 with business contact Manager, Publisher 2007, Accounting Express 2007, Access 2007.

I no longer think it is that causing the problem though.

When I change the "Unknown Application" With Firefox it works fine and opens in firefox. However I have always used Internet Explorer and want it to open Internet Explorer.

However when ever I try to set Explorer as the application it wont let me.
totalc.jpg

As you can see it doesn't give me an option for internet explorer and wont let me browze my programs to find it.

And my default list.

Doesn't have explorer on it.

This doesnt make sense to me at all. I use explorer for everything and it runs fine. So why isnt it on my default list?

I would realllllllly appreciate anyone who can fix this for me. so please let me know if you have any information that might help.

Sorry I haven't got back sooner and I don't have much time now.

Glad you've been able to clear up a few things, especially with regards what you called MS Works, that and Office, which is what you seem to have are entirely separate programs. MS Works was the cut down and cheap version of Microsoft Office, I didn't think they still had it as the version I have is 2001 and is what I used on the WinME OS.

You seem to have the full version of Office 2007 which includes Outlook, that can be used as an email program.

I think what it is you probably have to do is get Internet Explorer working with the protocols you've mentioned.

Sorry but I have no idea about how to do that, have you had a look in the tutorials here to see if you can find anything there to do with hyperlink protocol.

I did notice from your pictures, thank you for those, that you have the box ticked to always use Firefox to open the protocol, perhaps that is why you can't see any other choices Windows is doing what you told it and always opening using Firefox.

I hope one of the experts sees your post and can help you out as I'm sorry I can't, in the meantime I'll see if I can find anything else out that may help you, I hope you can get your problem solved soon. :)

I am not always able to come up with a solution, but I keep my word. I told you that I would not forget about you and I did not.

Try this informative and well written tutorial by our own Adminsitrator Brink. Read it over. I think it will help

If you right click on a link then go to properties, you can tell what extension is used to open it.

Good Luck

just something quick, have you tried pressing the 'Ctrl' button then clicking on the link, reason i suggest this is because its what you have to do in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. maybe im wrong, but give it a try anyways.
