Internet Plug-ins don't work on Vista x64

Hey all.

I can't track down the exact thing that changed, but many of my internet plug-ins (QuickTime, Silverlight, Air) won't work properly. I will install the plug-in, then when I go to a site that requires it, it says it's not installed, despite clearly being the Program registry.

When I use QuickTime, I can go to various sites that have QT movies and they load fine, but if I go to Apple.com, it says I need to grab the newest QuickTime.

Silverlight apps won't load at all.

Any time I go to Adobe's marketplace for AIR apps, despite having one running, it says that I need to install Air.

This is in both IE7 and Firefox.

Suggestions?

Do you have UAC or a Virus Scan program turned on?

Nah, UAC was turned off as soon as I installed Vista and I only do virus scans on period basis, so it's not regularly turned on.

How about checking CONTROL PANEL --> INTERNAT OPTIONS --> Programs tab --> MANAGE ADD-ONS?

Are they all there and checked as allowed?

Oh, and just to make sure -- you are talking about the 32-bit version of IE on Vista x64, right? Not IEx64?

Right, the x86/basic version of IE.

I went in through there and didn't have any of those programs listed, just Microsoft programs and utilities.

That indicates that the plugins have been removed from IE. Maybe you or someone "reset" IE to installation defaults because of some other problem.

From what you are saying about your experience, I would think it has something to do with a change in security (may a program just installed) that is prohibiting things.

You could certainly try to reset IE, but since you are saying it happens with Firefox as well, I am thinking third party security app.

Well, that's odd because Flash works great 100% of the time and QT works about half the time as it is, but neither are listed in there, which is odd.

I don't have any other third-party security apps running or on this computer aside from Defender and Firewall is enabled.
