Is there a way to speed up Vista 32-bit?

Hi haku6,

Thanks for the specs :)

Oh, you mentioned a 660C here, so I assumed it was the same computer.

Thanks for the model number, that's all I needed :) The RAM form factor that we're after is 200 Pin SoDimm. Having looked at the specs for that laptop, it also seems that the maximum amount of RAM that you can have is 2GB (in the form of 2x1GB sticks). Here is the recommended RAM for that laptop:

1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 upgrades for Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Series Laptop/Notebook, CT908361 from Crucial.com

Here it is on Amazon if you would prefer to purchase it through there: Crucial Sodimm Laptop Memory Upgrade (1GB,200-pin,DDR2 PC2-5300,Cl=5,1.8v): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

It would be best if someone could double check that for me though, it would be a costly mistake if I'm wrong!

Tom

I meant RAM, of course. Getting a bit long in the teeth and confused.

How should I go about augmenting RAM (and get to know the limits) with that specific Toshiba machine. I've done it before with my own laptop, it was indeed a cinch. But is there a site where I can find instructions?

Bye,

haku6
The easiest way is to run the Crucial System Scanner. That will tell you exactly what your options are and how much they cost.

For 'normal' applications, 2GB of RAM should suffice for a Vista system. If you want to speed up your system over and above that, I recommend to replace the HDD with a SSD. That will make a very big difference. A 120GB SSD runs around $100 and would make a lot more sense than masses of RAM. The HDD you gain can make a good external disk in a USB attached caddy.
