since windows installer service is dependant on the other services runninng I suspect you have a damaged system. I would run the system file checker.

start>search>type cmd>rght click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

this is safe to do.

My bad sorry. to compress a file you need a utility like winzip, or winrar. they take files and compress them to save space and time when uploading or downloading. you probably will need one or the other eventually.

there is alot that needs to be done. Im wondering if going to SP2 will fix the issues you have.

the fastest way to fix this would be a clean re-install. is there anything on that disk that you cant live without? have you done a current backup?
