Major Graphics Card Problem

Oh, safee mode eh... Hmm, don't think you can stress the video card in safe mode as the card drivers aren't there to go into 3d mode.

Is it possible to boot into windows and try?

I apologize for giving you the wrong name for HWMonitor. :o

Did you look both inside and outside of your case to check the things I mentioned?

Yeah but im stupid and cant locate the gpu. The heat sink is kind of stopping me from taking things out. Ill get pictures for you later of the inside. Also how do i clean the inside without compressed air?

You won't find it, so don't worry, you're not stupid. Wither doesn't realize Your gpu is intergrated into the motherboard, and is sitting under the longest copper line. The cpu is the shorter one.

I can't find a repair manual to take out the, but basically, like mot laptops, you need to remove the fan (bout 3 screws), then undo the screws holding each heat pipe. It then shimmys out.

But its not heat related.. Lets eliminate the os and hard drive, d/l a copy of ubuntu, put it on a dvd, your systems to old for usb boot, and see if you can run that.

You're correct. I didn't realize he doesn't have discrete graphics. The term "video card" has been used throughout this thread and I went with it. The integrated graphics most ikely wouldn't have a cooling fan but that doesn't mean that overheating can't be a problem. The experience I related is with a discrete graphics card in my mobile work station. Overheating may not even be the problem but it never hurts to rule it out for both the graphics and the CPU.

Of coarse theres a video card cooler and fan, and it is a video card btw, it's just not as compact as a add in card.

The card should run hot in safe mode too. I'd expect 60C and above idle.

Phew. Got me confused.

But, no matter. I'm wondering what's happening.

Found a youtube video which could very well match my problem. How to Dissassemble a HP touchsmart IQ770 - YouTube

Ill try it out in a couple of hours and tell you the results

Just looking at the one fan in the photos, it doesn't look too dirty. It could be the onboard graphics just crapped out.
