I currently run Vista 64x
Long story short here:
Over a year ago I obtained a virus that obliterated these three things (as far as I know at least):
1. Windows Automatic Updates
2. Windows Security Center
3. Windows Firewall
Through much googling and such, I have managed to recover automatic updates and the security center, however, I can literally find no one else with the same problem I have for the firewall.
Security center is not able to start windows firewall because the service is not running. The windows firewall service does not show up in the Services list.
Using CMD and typing "net start mpssvc" I get told that the "Service name is invalid". If I try entering "sc query mpssvc", I get "The specified service does not exist as an installed service"
So basically, the service has been completely removed from the computer. The same thing happened for the security center, except on another forum another person uploaded his registry key for the default x64 security center, which I simply installed, rebooted, and it works fine. Could the solution be as simple as uploading the right registry key(s) for windows firewall? For the updates, I found on a forum that I had to enter a bunch of commands on cmd that downloaded the service and installed it on reboot.
Normally I don't care for windows firewall but for some ridiculous reason, my bloody printer demands it to be up and running to even operate. Jesus.
Can anyone provide some insight onto this? I've been mindlessly googling for hours and I'm ready to smack my face against a wall.
Thanks :D
