Need help with deleting a partition and rebooting...

I also think that is what faerymom wants to do.

It is not difficult.

I will wait for confirmation before explaining how to do it.

How much free space do you have on the C partition?

No, my boot drive is C:/, because there's not an option to delete it. I can't alter anything...I've been saying this the whole time...

OK faerymom,

Y'done good so far, but more info is still needed. Go to Start>Computer, and post a snip like this one

Drives C and D.JPG

.....that shows the amount of free space that you have.

Or alternatively, you could extend the right margin on the Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management page, and take a snip similar to this

Disk Management - Shrink Partition.JPG

Both methods show free space, but the latter provides more useful detail to base advice on.

I also recommend that you have enough patience to wait out until Dwarf has a look at the problem for you, and gets back to you. His mouse will be up and running again in a couple of hours.

Best of Luck.;)

Hey Faerymom,

This is great, but you still need to do a snip to show the column headings, as shown in my previous post example. See the Free Space column next to Capacity, that's the one that is needed.

Left click and hold the right-hand margin for the double-headed arrow, then move the margin to the right, to display the Free Space column. Then go through your snip procedure to include that column.

Snip 1.JPG

Go for it.....at least you're getting lots of snip practice:D

First step is to get the boot files onto C.

1. Go to folder options and make sure Hidden Files and Protected o/s files are showing.

2. Copy and paste bootmgr and the pale yellow Boot folder from D to C. You will get a message bcd is in use and can't be copied - skip it and copy the rest.

3. Open an elevated command prompt and type:

bcdedit /export C:\Boot\bcd

then press enter.

EITHER Use a partition manager such as Paragon :

4. Rt click C and select Make Primary.

MAKE PRIMARY2009-08-16_053557.jpg

5. Mark C Active

6. Reboot to hand system status to C. [ C will now be the System , Active partition].

7. Delete the D partition.

8. Use the Paragon "Copy partition " function to copy C into the unallocated space that was D.

COPY PART-2009-08-16_053743.jpg

9. Mark the Newly copied partition Active and Reboot . The newly copied partition will now be System. Paragon will have updated bcd for you , so you will be able to boot into it.

10. Delete the original C partition and extend the newly copied partition.

The free versions on the Paragon website don't have those functions, but there are free "promo" versions around that do.

Paragon Partition Manager 2009, or Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 Professional, or Paragon Hard Disk Manager 9.5 Special Edition will all do that.

OR after step 1-3, you could use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image of C ( you need to create another partition to store the image on - shrink C first to do that).

Then restore that image to the D partition . Make sure you select (dot) the option to make the restored partition Active ( by selecting Active - it will automatically also be made Primary).

MACRIUM -ACTIVE-2009-08-16_054133.jpg

Then run startup repair to make the bcd entry and you will be able to boot into the newly restored partition.

Then use Disk Management to delete C and extend the newly restored partition.

See my previous post for how to proceed.

It will be easiest to use Paragon product as described above.

If, instead, you wish to use Macrium to create an image of C then restore that image to D - you need to find somewhere to store the image. You don't have enough free space on C to do it.
