I mentioned in another post that I haven't used Windows Updates in two years and that it's not crazy. The vast variety of Updates issues revolve around obscure fixes that affect only a small fraction of users. This supposedly excludes some of the security fixes. Upon turning on updates, my machine was immediately infected with spyware. Some of us are not programmers and can't spend alot of time trying to make windows work. We could ask then after restoring our computers a half dozen times, why wasn't it infected before turning on updates?! My computer, with no spyware blocker and without a single update in two years, didn't not show a single instance of spyware previously. This seems to me to be a valid question. The better question is : Why is the functionality of my computer affected? You buy software and it comes out of a box. You don't expect it to change it's "charter" over the internet or while you are not watching so that you don't know from one moment to the next if it's secure or not. Rant over.
