You are doing it wrong.

Type cmd in search.
Then do not hit enter, on the top you will see cmd, right click on that and choose run as administraor.

This may or may not be bad news. The sfc is really good, but it is lazy. It fixes one thing at a time. Run it a few more times.

Go to search. Type device manager. Go to device manager. Check drives for problems with drivers. You will see a yellow warning, if there is a problem.

Also make sure you have most up to date drivers. That does not show in Device Manger.

I am more or less out of ideas. The only thing that I can think of but you cannot do is a repair install with the DVD, because you do not have one. You might want to call MS, and they may just send a DVD, for shipping cost plus a small mark up. You do not need a key. Here is some more information. If no one else comes by, the drives may be shot.

CD/DVD drive not recognized by Windows Vista

Thanks for all your help. The strange thing is, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I installed a disk last week and today it recognized a blank DVD but when I placed the DVD in the machine again...it did not recognize it

Is there a way I can reformat my laptop without the disk and maybe it will all work when I am done?

My Computer

If you format, everything is gone. As I said, you may be able to get one from MS, for a nominal cost. They are charging for the key not the DVD. If you ever get this thing to 100% again, make HD image, and put it away. You will never have this problem again.

It may be the Drive, also. I have no way of knowing.

Others will see this post, also. They will all have ideas, too.
