no sound through hdmi??

No such plug exists on my video card, but you guys have been helpful in trying to narrow in on the specific problem.

Actually, that is what bakerboy was referring to - your HDMI output cannot send sound to the TV because the sound is not connected to the video card - hence the "little white plug with 2 wires" - you'll need to figure out how to do this, but your instructions that came with the card should help in that respect.

And what I meant was that if you connect the TV to the PC using HDMI and *don't* have the speakers connected to the TV, does the TV play anything? That was to help narrow down the problem - is it the PC not putting out sound or is it the TV not send the input sound from the PC to the speakers. Clearly, this solution from the other thread you posted and bakerboy's reply (albeit very vague) indicate that the TV will not get any sound from the PC in HDMI regardless of whether the speakers are connected via TOSLINK or not - which makes sense, since you haven't connected your sound card to your video card.

BTW, this is all going on *inside* to computer - don't go looking at the back of the machine where you connect the HDMI cable at.

Problem is resolved. Using the other DVI port on the back of the card and disabled all other audio solutions. Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully this can help any Radeon 4850 owners in the future that have this problem.

Cheers!

Put the computer on a table in a room with no carpet. Check to see how the video card is wired for sound.

vista guru wheni go in my pc what particular wire should i look out for to connect it to the video card and i have heard that u might need to enable hdmi sound from bios but there is nothing in the bios relatedt to this

My Computer

You would need to connect a wire to a sound card and install TV/HDMI drivers most likely.

I don't chat. Look in the installation manual for your video card.

Did everything come assembled? Did they install all the proper drivers for the video card? It could be the video / audio comes from the PCIe slot. Call your vendor.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I have a question that's fairly relevant to this topic. So, I have an Asus m2n61-ax mobo which apparently does not have the 2-pin SPDIF connector built-in. I bought a EVGA 9800 GX2. So after much reading and learning, I have discovered that the only way for me to output audio through my HDMI connection is to connect audio via the SPDIF cable. Since I have no SPDIF output on the mobo, is there an alternative means for me to produce audio through my HDMI output on the vid card?
