I suggest going into the bios and looking to see if the drive is recognized, if it is the i'd get a livecd of Ubuntu and booting to it and see if the drive is accessible in it.
In addition to what Patonb has said, I would request you to run a hardware diagnostics provided by the manufacturer to check the functionality of the hardware components.
