PC crashes when using WMM

I was trying to trim a little bit off the beginning of a video and the moment I clicked "Trim beginning" the computer restarted, no warnings or anything the screen went black and the "Intel inside" logo appeared.

It crashed once again when I dragged the video to the bottom where it says "Drag media here" this time the screen was black with some blue streaks on it. Very random but luckily nothing important has been lost, just my patience :sa:

So far ran as administrator it crashes and it wont load in safe mode due to hardware acceleration  ?

Edit: I'm going to try the other method mentioned, uploading a video at the moment so you can see exactly what I see.

What format is the video you want to trim?
I can recommend the free video dub in this suite
DVDVideoSoft.com: Download free DVD, iPod, YouTube video converter and editor software and freeware
Best to download the whole suite (22 programs)
I use it often and has a good free help service

.avi videos, I think using another one would be best as Windows Movie Maker isn't going to work, unless someone has experienced this before and knows how to fix it. Thanks for your help.
