Problems installing updates for Vista x64 Ultimate

necro,

Download the hotfix from this link and try again..

:)

Tried that one. I get a message saying: "The update does not apply to your system".

I'm still working on the hardware problem. So far I have eliminated the HDD. I used chkdsk and WD Data Lifeguard Diag software. They both found no problems. I will try removing some of the cards today.

You have nothing to do with removing your hardwares..... Its clearly a bad combination of your ramsize and motherboard with your vista...

Go to control panel >classic view>program and features>view installed updtes if kb929777 is already installed, uninstall it first.

Restart your computer, install kb929777 manually. Restart your computer and chec for updates through windows update.

If anything offered for u install that too. Restart your computer probably you will not get bsod

:)

I don't see any Vista OS updates on that list. I attached screenshots of the windows updates screen to show which updates I keep getting. I try installing them but they keep reappearing.

BSOD is no longer a problem when taken down to 2GB memory. The only problem I have now is installation of updates. As far as I know, no updates will completely install on my computer. I either get an error message or a message saying that I don't need the update. I am beginning to think I may have a virus and need to reintall the OS and format the hard drives. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to go back to XP. I can't underdstand why MS would release an OS that will only work with 2GB of memory, that's just crazy.

Have you tried one stick of ram at a time ?.
Put in one, then if it works OK put in another one, and so on till you get an error.
If you get an error remove the stick of ram and try another one.
I have eight Gig of ram with no errors, so Vista will run with a lot of ram.
It could even be the ram slot on the Motherboard.
Try this and post your results.

Ok, just finished with the memory. I tried putting each stick in each slot. Every time it booted up to windows with no problems and no bsod. So, everything seems to check out. Please pardon my incompetence, but why would the RAM prevent the windows updates from installing properly?

Aslo, I noticed that there isn't anything listed on the Windows features screen.

On first view only ccpinterface key is missing -Installers key is only temporaly key.Import fix which I attached below -although I doubt it is really issue - I suspect the problem is any deeper subkeys in HKLM\Components or HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages.After importing post here checksur.log and sfcdetail.txt what I asked in my previous post

My Computer

First off, last night my computer was running with no bsod. Until.... I intalled my bluetooth dongle. After that I started getting bsod during startup and after recovering from hibernation. I took it oout but bsod still continues to happen.

Second....I ran that fix u gave me and it didn't work. I got a message saying it could not access the registry.
Also, I could not get CheckSur to work either. I downloaded it, installed it, and nothing happened. I do not know how to run the CheckSur program. I believe I already mentioned that in another post. I put CheckSur in both cmd and the run box. When I put it in run, a folder with a bunch of cabinet files popped up. Plus, I searched for and could not find the CheckSur.log file. I did however run sfc /scannow and the log is attached below.

It was my fault in this fix -I confused paths in registry thus you had this error during importing -sorry.Under post area you have corrected fix.Import it +restart. If after importing CheckSur still won't work run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin) and type

REG EXPORT "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages" %userprofile%\Desktop\Packages.txt

and next navigate to C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages

C:\
cd\
cd /d C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages

and list containers

dir /s >%userprofile%\Desktop\Packages_files.txt

On your desktop appear files Packages.txt and Packages_files.txt ->upload these files on rapidshare.com because these files will be too big to attache here

I checked these files and nothing wrong found.Whatever it is I recommend Repair Install http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html
without loosing programs and data

Didn't work. When it restarts it goes to bsod. I have to remove the upgrade in order to boot into windows again.

Try updating your windows update agent. This link will help u :)

windows update agent is my biggest problem. I have it installed, but updates won't install properly.

Using CheckSUR to repair Windows Vista update problems « the back room tech

Do you people even bother to read my previous posts?

I've already tried to install Update KB947821. It did not work.

Anything that is a Windate Update will not install on my system properly. I will get a successful install message. However, when I restart it's like I never installed it. It almost seems like Vista is automatically starting from a previous restore point when I restart.

I described the proper way of installing the checksur manually.

You need to delete the checksur registry key and add a key mentioned in that article.

Follow the steps mentioned after the download link for kb947821.

Try that. :sarc:

Yeah, you got me. I did not read the whole article the first time. I just finished following the instructions exactly. Guess what....it's a big surprise here. IT DID NOT WORK. CheckSur fails to run after installation. This is the fifth time I tried installing it. Anyone got other ideas besides doing a clean install?
