Random BSOD (Kernel Data Inpage Error)

Got recommended to download Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive Data the .ISO of Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for dos to run from boot, and apparently this will tell me if it is actually failing, I think so anyway. Just it isn't working from the CD I burnt, so I will have to buy another blank tomorrow and re-try it with a different burning problem.

to be quite honest I don't have a clue what I'm doing with the problem, just take advice as it comes.Don't want to replace something on it, that might not even be the cause. If I get a definite problem then I can see cost of repairing against cost of replacing.

Hi,

Try this trial software for regenerating defective hard drive sectors: -

Dmitriy Primochenko Online

Direct download link: -

http://www.dposoft.net/products/hddreg/2011/735798276/hr2011.exe

Once downloaded it will create a boot Flash or CD drive

Note: -
Only one sector can be recovered from a trial disk but at least you will know if the disk is failing!

With the state of his hard disk (assuming that it is indeed the harddisk), this software will not help, and chkdsk will do just as well. At this point, we need to confirm that it is the hard disk (and not some other piece of hardware which is broken), hence why we are running that software.

@Eastwood: Wrench97 is giving you excellent advice over at TSF. They will get the software they asked to be run running.

I am sorry that this is dragging on. Let VirGnarus and Wrench97 test your hard disk. They will get your hard disk sorted out, and they are familiar with the software they have recommended.

Richard

I will try to burn the file onto a cd again, but don't have any here with me so again I'll have to come back tomorrow!

Thankyou again, enjoy your evenings chaps!

Hello again!

I shall show you one tip, which doesn't explicitly relate to this problem, is more general, but is good to know nonetheless. You can actually re-use CD-R/DVD-R disks.

Insert the disk into the drive, and on My Computer (without the My these days!), right click on the disk and click Format. Complete the format operation (being VERY careful not to format the wrong disk or hard disk). Once it has completed, the disk will be blank again.

There is one slight snag: the maximum capacity of the disk will be reduced by the size of the files which were on there, and so this trick can't be used forever, or repeatedly on disks with lots of files on them, but it can draw extra life out of those disks.

Just a little tip of the day!

Richard

P.S. Although this doesn't work on absolutely every disk, it works on most.

niemiro, I love that, never knew you could with CD-R disks, thanks for future reference. It has deleted the information, other than the name I gave to the CD but unfortunately won't let me write on the disk again (JVC by the way is the make.)

Anyway, I again burnt the programme to disk, and why I do not know but the laptop still is not booting from the CD, could this be due to the problems the computer is having? It's definitely set to run from DVD drive first.

Thankyou all

My Computer

By the way, just went and enabled the boot options under main in BIOS and upon pressing F12 it comes up and I asked to boot from CD and again just skips straight to Windows start

My Computer

Hi,

This means/ tells you that the disk is not a boot disk! It must just be a data disk or something.

Please wait for the correct format of disk to be provided as detailed by niemiro.

Shame about that. All I know is that it worked on my disks(!) when I first discovered that trick. Not that it does you a lot of good! I guess I was lucky and had disks half way between this and that! Choose 1 or 0: half: sigh...
