Hello. I've been trying to solve a problem for the past few days. I have a Netgear WNDR 3400 router. I have Vista Home Premium -64 bit OS on my desktop hardwired to it. I have attached an external hard drive to the router via it's USB 2.0 port. When i go to network folder i see the USB drive and am able to access it from this desktop and a laptop i have that has XP OS and is connected via Wi-fi. However, when i choose security settings in the router that make the USB drive password protected and choose to have the USB drive read and write password required i have a problem. When i attempt to access the drive in the network folder it ask for user name and password. I supply this which is the user name and password of the router. Supposedly this should work. However, i get a logon error. It says ,"Logon unsuccessful-Windows is unable to log you on check your username and passwrod,". My problem is that the username and password is correct. In fact, i'm able to access the password protected drive via ftp or http by given the name and password. I thought this was a Netgear issue originally but now i think it's a windows issue. I just don't know a workaround. Netgear had me create a shortcut to my drive via ftp. However, this is not what i want is i have no idea how to save a new file to it and don't want to hassle with it everytime. My whole goal of the hard drive was to have crashplan backup service backup to it. I'm a networking rookie but it seems right that i should have my drive password protected. I've tried Netgear CS, Netgear forums, and other networking forums and nobody seems to know this. I'm hoping someone here might have a suggestion for me.thanks.
