Reformat w/o OS disc

Hi guys, I think someone might have asked this qn b4...

Just want to know how you guys reformat without the OS disc, cos my lappy doesnt come with a recovery disc or OS disc but am quite sure they have install the recovery somewhere in my lappy...

Also, if the recovery is in the lappy itself, are we able to extract it and save it into a disc?

The procedure should be explained by the manufacturer, either on their web site or somewhere in the manual.
What is the manufacturer/model?

The manufacturer is called Kohjinsha, a japan brand and the model that Im using is SH610BS..

I think they use the pheonix recovery system (F4?? i don't remember)
Google should help you.

Try tapping F4 or F8 as soon as you switch the machine on to enter the recovery options.

so meaning to say, recovery options performs the same function as reformat? That means I need to reinstall all the drivers?

that means to summarize,

I can do a reformat thru the recovery option and need not reinstall all the drivers for the lappy as all the drivers will still be there after reformatting...

Am I right to say that?

The recovery option will put your computer back to the state it left the factory (with os).

My machine has an option to create a Recovery set in the Start Menu; just look around for it.

Also, if the recovery is in the lappy itself, are we able to extract it and save it into a disc?

It's not your OS, it's how (where) your PC builder added it! Look around !!!
To tell you the truth I don't think all manufactures add this option.
Edit: I meant to create a recovery disc set!

Hi undergrd,

Check your laptop manual. If a recovery disc has not been supplied with your laptop, then, because the manufacturer has to provide a method for you to restore your system to its original condition, this means that there is a recovery partition on the laptop itself. The instructions on creating a recovery disc will be in the manual, so just follow them carefully. Once you have made your recovery disc, you will be able to restore your system to its original configuration. This, unfortunately, also includes the additional 'bloatware' that many manufacturers like to include. Some systems can even restore directly from the recovery partition itself as well as from the created recovery disc. This is usually accessed by pressing a specific key combination when you start your machine. Again, check your manual if this is the case. There is no need for you to worry about having the correct drivers as these are included in the recovery disc/partition. It is possible to use a retail version of Vista on a laptop, although I would recommend that you stick with Vista Basic for this model because of its specifications, however you need to make sure that you can obtain the correct drivers. The laptop manufacturer should have these on its website, link given below for your convenience.

Just look thru the manual, it doesnt teach how to create a recovery disc but it teaches how to do a system recovery in the pc.

but im confused here, it states 2 options...

one is recover boot partition and the other is recover entire drive...

dunno which one to go for, so afraid I might accidentally delete the recovery file that are installed in the pc..

Hi undergrd,

The recovery partition on your hard drive is a protected and hidden partition. Either of the 2 options, recover boot partition and recover entire drive, will NOT affect this partition. The recover boot partition option is for when your system is unable to start normally, so this is usually the first option to try. This method will preserve your user data. If you are successful with this method, then I suggest that you backup all of your user data to an external drive. If this method fails, you will have to use the second option, recover entire drive. However, this option will cause your system to be restored to its original condition. All of your user data, as well as any updates from Microsoft, will be lost. Note that for both methods, I recommend that you disconnect from the Internet for the whole procedure and only reconnect once your system has been restored.

Im thinking of doing both reformatting and if possible create a recovery disc for my system...
