Restore from Backup Help

I dont have a restore dvd

can i make one?

Do i have the require stuff to make one up?backup .old etc

one thing that i do know is that i can burn dvds.

what ever the computer came with. if you have a vista dvd all the better. if it is from the computer mfr it is a restore disk, either will work

i have a purple disk titled "operating system" that came with my pc from dell.

window vista home premium 64bit sp1 reinstallation dvd

put that in the dvd player and boot. it will give you the option to restore my computer IF you have a backup to restore from. try it and let us know how it goes

so just checking before i do this, what is my backup?

my .old folder or my file backup on my external harddrive.

so just put the disk in and reboot then...

where did you store your backup? is that backup from this OS or from the OS the windows.old folder came from?

If the backup is from this OS and it is on a HD make sure the HD is avilable when booting fro the dvd. this should not kill the apps and data on your system now but is there anything that you cant live without if something goes bad?

If not;

put the dvd in the dvd player boot from it (not the OS) and click on the restore my computer.

i have only ever had windows vista the and .old is from vista(it was made when i reinstalled it) i am now running vista. all backups are form vista

but the .old folder is not on the ex hd but in my cd drive only there, does that need to be on the external hd

no i dont care about the one i am useing now(it can go) it is only a day old and has nothing on it, i just want to restore the windows . old folder from the last one.
