SFC /scannow unable to complete!

My Device Manager says it's a Toshiba MK1237GSX ATA Device. I was on Toshiba's website noodling around, but it doesn't seem like they have anything.

Sorry for the triple post, but I thought I would close things off with a good report.

I did ran a chkdsk /R over night (man that took FOREVER) and here is the report I got back from the wininit event in the event viewer:

"Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is OS. A disk check has been scheduled. Windows will now check the disk. 226560 file records processed. 366 large file records processed. 0 bad file records processed. 2 EA records processed. 43 reparse records processed. 837877 index entries processed. 5 unindexed files processed. 226560 security descriptors processed. In summary? No bad sectors... Yay =]

There are a few more errors showing up, but I will look into them. If I have any more questions, I'll make a new post about the specific problem. Thanks for all your help everyone! This is a great forum =]

I had similar problems with a 3Ware 9690SA controller and index errors. I would suggest run the disk utilities from the manufacturer on your hard drive. See if you have a bad drive.

I'm not sure what to use though. I have a Toshiba drive and it looks like there aren't any utilities for it. I'm worried about using a third party or another manufacturer's utilities on it unless you guys know it won't do anything funky.

It's about a year old now. I carry my laptop around in my computer bag around school, and take good care of it. I don't walk around with it in my bag on, because it would scratch the hard drive obviously so I'm not stupid about it.

I usually put my laptop on hibernate, because it's quicker to turn on. But I wouldn't think that has anything to do with the driver errors. Not sure though, I'm just giving you tidbits of information hoping that you can make something from it, lol.

I use CCleaner on the registry once in a while, and it does a good job at keeping it clean. However I heard from one of you that I shouldn't use reg cleaners on vista... is this true? Should I turn of the UAC before I do so or something? Maybe that's why I had so many errors?

As far as drive utilities goes... I can't do anything more than chkdsk now then right? Since Toshiba doesn't have any?

Thanks again for all your help.
