Should i upgrade my PSU?

There is a lot of half true statements being thrown around here.

Firstly the OP's system is extremely basic with a weak low power graphics card. The current power supply for the OP is fine, absolutely plenty. However it still may pay to upgrade to a better power supply purely for better efficiency and lower heat output.

Corsair sell fantastic power supplies, so do Antec, Seasonic, CoolerMaster and a few others. If you were to upgrade I would recommend you get something that is rated 80+ for effieciency. The Corsair VX450 would be the perfect power supply for you, unfortunately it is not modular.

Honestly the PSU you have is most likely fine. My only concern is the brand.

Upgrading power supplies wont make your computer faster. Its a matter of using what is suitable to your system. However power supplies do play a role in system stability, this is why purchasing a quality brand is neccessary.

Remember, quality over quantity!
Id rather an Antec 500W PSU over a SHAW 1000W PSU any day! :)

I agree about the Antec 500 over Shaw..

the best brands are Seasonic, PC P&C, Corsair, and Antec.

I used to have a Corsair. they are great PSU's. but PC P&C are slightly stronger, and a little more efficient. I'd say you should get the Corsair HX520. that will give you room to upgrade to something like a ATI 4870, or a eVGA GTX 260 graphics card in the future, and still be ok...

Corsair 520w is modular. so you only use the cables you need, and save the rest.. it's a great way to go. I'd do the HX520 personally. but there are cheaper ones around.

or snag this. I have the Silencer Series, and it's a great PSU. I went from the Corsair HX520, to the PCP&C silencer 750w. and it's a great, stable PSU. if your not going to ever get a better graphics card. might as well get the cheaper 420w.. as thats enough for ya.
