Niemiro may be able to fix it, but if it were me, I would get a Vista install DVD. If I did not have one it will cost about $25.00. You can get one from the computer company that sold you the computer with the OS already installed. You will need a key number.
Then just reinstall. Ask for a DVD to repair the computer, they will give it to you for cost.

Another alternative, with system restore you can go back to before the SP2 install, and try again. If it does not work, you can get the DVD for $25.00. If it does work, you are all set.

I agree with Richc46. I think that your best bet would be to try to buy another CD (NOT a whole new Windows liscence) Alternatively, in the mean time, you could borrow a Vista DVD from a friend of exactly the same type, but use your product code.

First I need you to download and run the System Update Readiness Tool from here: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Then I need you to re-try SFC in normal mode. Hopefully SFC will now complete. Then please follow this SFC tutorial (applies to Vista as well as 7) to try to fix many of the files which SFC could fix, had they not been in use:

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot - Windows 7 Forums

After that, either way (if it completes or not), please copy to Desktop and upload the whole C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder (I need MORE than just CBS.log - all of them please)

So, System Update Readiness Tool, SFC, SFC from your DVD, Logs.

P.S. I know this will take a bit of time. If you just want to get another DVD then that is fine/great - we haven't even looked at the service errors yet - I am just showing you what you would have to do, if you want to go down the manual route.
