If you are able to take the test and it is negative, I would think that the cause is a driver.

americancritic and richc46: I'm still stuck at the memtest phase. I've burned four cds and changed the bios to boot from the CD and so far none have worked. I'll burn from a different computer and/or get help with getting a bootable CD today so I can run this test this evening. Sorry for the delay.

AmerCritic and myself have given you different methods to perfomr the memory test. I am sure that you followed the directions carefully. If you still have problems try the built in test. Not recommened to users, due to its poor recored of accuracy. If positive, it is correct, if negative, true results are not known. Try that one and then give us the results
Type memory in search, by the start button and give us the results

Thanks for the simple test. Here is the result: "No memory errors were detected." Shall I continue my quest to get a bootable CD to run MemTest 86+?

Unfortunately, yes. That test is notorious for an incorrect negative. See if you can get the Memtest results.

OK. I've been running the Memtest 86+. It's been running for one hour and 45 minutes. Pass 1 had 0 errors. I think the instructions were to let it run for at least seven passes, so I'll leave it on all night. Is there any other information I should glean from this screen or will the test produce some sort of report? Thanks.

If it crashes it will tell you what happened on your screen and then write it down and send it.

Update on Memtest 86+: The test has been running for just under 10 hours (9:57), has gone through six passes and produced 0 errors. I'll let it keep running for a while (didn't it need to complete 7 passes?), but will it end eventually or do most people just exit at some point?

Just reached Pass 9 and I'm going to exit out. The test has been running for 13 hours and 21 minutes, with no errors. I'm starting to wonder if excessive heat has been the culprit behind my bsod/system service exception. It's only been this summer that the events have happened. And I think it has been in the upper 80s (degrees F) when the system has crashed. With (currently) two fans trained on the open chassis, it seems to be working fine.

Just had another bsod/System Service Exception 03b. Had a chance to see the message and noticed something about Win23K. My conclusion had been it was all heat related, but I've got a fan still blowing on the open chassis and it cannot be more than 79 degrees (F) in my office. So. Were either of you able to sort anything out from those dump files? Also, I'm wondering, though the memory test came back OK, should I still swap out the RAM for known good RAM? Again, any suggestions are helpful.
