Download a trial copy of CCleaner if you don't have a good registry cleaner.

Once in Safe Mode, run CCleaner and tell it to clean your registry and clean your system as well... it will get rid of old instances of those drivers. Reboot to Vista

Unfortunately, there is no one fix for this error and thus a lot of patience and trial and error, or as in my case, replacing the video card.

PS. Try updating your DX files.

i am in a lil bit better spot now, or think that i am getting some progress done

but i open'd Crysis Warhead again, and played until it kicked me out, then i got this error msg.

But then i went to the explorer window, and typed in
C:\Users\Benni\AppData\Local\Temp\
and it appears that i found none of those 3 files above

the only file that i found starting with "WER" is "WER8FEB.tmp.version.txt (txt file)

I started having it too on my ATI HD4850 over the weekend.
new system build i7 920 6gb DDR3 1333 1 TB sata2 drive and a HD4850
works ok as long as not running fallout3 or dawn of war 2
Battlefield 2142 ok but, not as graphicly demanding thou.

Well i get similar problem with GTA IV, but it usually happens either when the pc try's to utilise SLI (But of course it don't work with GTA IV) or (coinsidence, i don't know) when a new set of drivers come out. But thats the only time i get it, crysis for me is ok, never had the problem.

My card blew up during a disk format.
Got new HD4850 everything OK now I can run anything.

Still good temps and no driver warnings or BSoD

I was re loading vista when it go to 2% screen went nuts

Seems like that's what was causing your "Driver has stopped Working and Successfully Recovered" issues? As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I too had to replace my video card as I too had the drivers stopped working issue. Turns out that my 3870 was faulty. Went with a 4850 and have not had issues since.

I think some of the newer cards (technology wise) may be putting out a little too much heat which eventually causes problems. I've seen a few threads where people had to replace/switch video cards due to overheating issues whether from ATI or Nvidia. And overclocking the card just makes it worse as it's already on edge heat wise.

ATI's 4850's idles around 65 degrees Celsius (mine around 68) and this is said to be normal operating temps for this card. That's a lot of heat for an idling card.

I have been trying to play my Starcraft II Beta successfully but I am having the EXACT same problem as the author. I have 5 seconds of black screen and I am forced to CTRL + ALT + Delete my way out.

If anyone can give me some advice that I can do/what should I upgrade.

i have the same prob on my 2nd pc with crysis and found it was a driver instability with System bios the F12J fixed it for my 2nd pc
AMD Phenom II X4 965
4gb DDR-2 800 XMS
2x Geforce 9800GT SLI
GA Nforce 550 SLI AM2
and it works great now
