Vista ctrl+alt+del wont work

I definitely agree with what Rich is recommending, but I have some questions about how this problem happened.

It sounds like what may have happened is that the boot sector on the hard drive was somehow compromised. When you removed the virus, what tool did you use? I suspect you ran some kind of program, since you likely don't have the knowledge to manually remove an infection.

Sorry for the late reply.

The problem started when one of the kids borrowed the laptop and deleted my virus software without me knowing, the first I found out about it was when a screen popped up saying Metropolitan Police and I had to pay a fine to unlock the screen.

Went online on a public pc, found out more about it and managed to get it going in safe mode and download some freeware, run it and thought the problem was fixed but now I have all this.

I am just about to save the fix to cd that Rich kindly helped me with and will see how I get on with that. I will report later the results.

Hi Rich and Cytherian

Well I burnt the disk and tried to reboot from it, I remembered to change the selection so it booted from the cd and whilst it whirred a little I still have the same issue. Any other thoughts please?

Thanks again for all your help

If you burnt the disc correctly, it has Vista on it. If you boot from it, it will reinstall. I do not think that you booted from it.
Go to you CD burner eg imgbrn or the windows burner and verify the CD ie. Make sure it is burnt correctly. Every Burner has a verify function.

OK, I have tried as you suggested and whilst I can hear it reading from the disk I still get the samme screen as before and yes I did save and exit when i changed the boot. Any other ideas (apart from dropping it off a bridge!)

Thanks

Did you verifiy the disc on your burner, and did you burn at a slow speed of about 2x?

Go at a very slow speed and verify the CD after you are done.
Maybe it will not work, but it should boot.

This is great and I have got to the boot drive and have the following options (The first one is already highlighted white):

1. IBE HDD: WDC WD2500BEVS-22USTO-(S1)
2. IDE CD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40N-(
3: PCI BEV: MBA v9.4.5 Slot 0800
4: USB HDD:
5: USB CDROM:
6: USB FDC:
7: USB KEY:
8:
Excluded from boot order:

Bearing in mind I have no cd's or back up discs, which do I select please or is it just a case of trial and error?

Thanks again

You set it to number 2 if it does not work try 5

If it does not work, put 2 and 5 in the first and second position.
