Vista Giving Me All Sorts Of Errors And BSOD's

No, it will just state whether it found errors in the RAM modules. Nothing will be logged or saved to the desktop. So if it does report errors, please state the details. Thats about it :)

Alrighty. Here it is. I ran it several times upon starting up the computer and it would get to the 5 second mark (and 5% mark and always froze). I couldn't esc or get out or anything. Nothing was changing on the screen. I took a picture of my screen and it's below (sorry it's blurry).

It seems you RAM is broken. Replace it with a dual channel 4GB 667MHz kit.

Would this be something that I can go back to Gateway on and what kind of foundation do I have trying to get them to replace it? The computer isn't but 4 months old and I've never opened it and it's got a 1 year limited parts and 1 year limited labor warranty.

yes you can at least contact them. describe the problem, tell them you have run memtest and the results failed. tell them abt the BSOD's. they will probably just replace the whole computer cuase its cheaper for them, but it may take a week to ten days

Eh, pre-built pc's. Yes take it back. They can run memtest86 and it will stall and they shoudl replace the RAM.

So I contacted Gateway and they are wanting me to perform a restore first so that it will set the way it was when I first got it. They gave me a webpage explaining how to do it.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

My Computer

Does a restore even work? Do it if you have a backup.

I have no clue if it'll work... Hahaha... That's just what the tech support guy kept telling me to do.

And I'll back up any personal documents and files on an external harddrive and then probably give it a go unless anyone tells me not to before I get to it.

My Computer

Do it. It should fix it. Theoretically. Except if you fix it, do you know what caused the problem in the first place?

No I wouldn't know what the problem was... But if it's the RAM as some people expect here, I don't think a restore would do squat to fix so I'd be in the same boat still.

My Computer

Can you replace the RAM yourself? And then restore?

If gateway will accept the machine and fix it for you under warranty thats the best way IMO. Thats why the mfg supplies a warranty. Stuff happens.

Then try the restore. No guarantees though. You should be able to return it though.
