I run Vista x64. Since installing Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (from a download), after a normal shutdown I am unable to get my computer up and running again. What happens is this: the windows logo appears as normal for a moment, then the desktop starts to appear and a few icons appear, then a "User Account Control" window opens showing the Kaspersky logo and saying: "A program needs your permission to continue", with the options "continue" or "cancel". However, by then everything has frozen on the desktop, including the mouse, and so I cannot click on this window to use its options and clear it. (My mouse works fine on another computer, and the other mouse freezes on mine and then works fine again on the other machine, so there is no problem with the mouse itself.) I have tried opening in "Safe" mode with command prompt in order to attempt to bypass this problem, thinking I might try a "system restore" via command prompt to take the system back before Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool was installed, but the "permission to continue" window STILL opens in the middle of the safe mode black screen and white computer code, stopping the keyboard from working to type anything into command prompt. I am a relative newbie to computers, and I am now baffled as to how to regain a working computer. Has anybody else had a similar problem, and can anyone offer me any suggestions on how to get out of this seeming deadlock? I am 80 years old and don't have much hair left to tear out! Any wisdom will be very gratefully received. (PS this posting was done on another computer.)
