Vista resolution problem, please help.

I recently had this problem when I installed a new 8800GT card. The solution for me, after some research, was to uninstall the Nvidea drivers, run a Nvidea cleaner program I got from 3dguru, reboot, and reinstall with the latest beta driver. This worked for me. The problem I am told is that when you install Nvidea drivers they don't overwrite all the previous driver DLL's. This causes conflicts and the system reverts to the default VGA drivers.

you should always Uninstall the old drivers before installing new drivers..

Or always try to reinstall drivers when having display problems. that usually is a easy fix, then sometimes it's something more.

Well, people. I can only tell you that I had the same problem again and I did exactly the same, unplug the monitor after turning of computer. Plug it back in and....no worries. Working fine. Still seems to be the easiest way. I did all the unistalling and reinstalling drivers business and all sorts of other stuff and it did nothing.

My Computer

Hi,
I hope somebody could help me with my resolution problem.
vista home premium 64bit and navidia GeForce 8500GT
Everything was fine up to yesterday evening. Now the highest resolution I can
choose is 1024X768. No option to go any higher. I have not changed anything but
the automatic update in vista did download new updates at the same time yesterday. Now my screen is streched and fuzzy.
Really annoying.
Thanx
i may have a work round that worked for me (but the problem cause may be different... I was trying to o/c my graphics cards!) anyway try connecting monitor to graphics card using old VGA connector... It worked for me! amazing.... it is just a work round as DVI cabkle resorts back to lower resolutions....
