Solved Vista won't boot, System restore/Startup repair can't fix

For some reason, it would not boot into sfae mode command prompt before, but somehow it worked just now. I have it running sfc /scannow and a chkdsk on next reboot.

Keeping fingers crossed!! :D

The HDD is dying, the chkdsk revealed bad sectors. The laptop is under warranty and Fujitsu is sending us a replacement HDD. Thanks for all of your help!

I had the exact same problem and all you have to do is wait it out. This is the first time i have just let the computer do it's thing while i researched how to fix it. Give it time and I promise it will start-up just fine.
