What is the wierdest that has happened with Vista?
Vista has turned out to be the most entertaining operating system I've ever worked on. I've encountered bugs that have had quite interesting results.
Several years ago, I had a laptop with Vista HP x32. I do not remember if it had SP1 or not. But, I remember using disc cleanup one afternoon to clean up the disc. There were a couple of enteries that reported having several gigs of data each. I decided that since anything shown in disc cleanup was safe to delete, so I checked them. And proceeded with disc cleanup.
When disc cleanup finished, I discovered that every file on the computer includeing data and system files (including the os) was deleted. The only things left were folders and the registry...nothing else.
When I attempted to reboot, it crashed, or more precisely, couldn't boot.
I ended up using system restore (several times) to restore the operating system from Vista recovery disc. I'm not certain where the restore points were, but it worked. I think my data files were lost.
I haven't seen that bug since on any computer running Vista.
