Windows explorer no responding

You may not be done with me. If Jacee says its not malware, Ill try my best to get this thing up and going for you. For the time being, my hunch is malware.

Right click on Command Prompt, choose to run as Administrator.... the copy and paste chkdsk /f, press the 'enter' key on the keyboard.

This will run checkdisk and fix anything it finds (hopefully)

Don't know what i'm looking for from chkdsk. It ran, then the puter finished re-booting. Tried to open mydocuments and still have the same problem with "windows explorer not responding".

If it went through the process and it still does not work, that means that was not the solution. Try this
Go to search
type cmd
right click on cmd when it pops up and then run as administrator.
In cmd type sfc /scannow.

Edit It does not sound like the prior command worked.

wrp found corrupt files but was unable...
made a log: c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log which i tried to bring up but it said access denied.

To me it looks like a sidebar problem (gadgets) which probably is not causing your current problem. Jacee may have other suggestions, also.

• Download random's system information RSIT

• Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
• Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.

Right now, close all open windows, click on Task Manager > Processes tab > end process xfinitytb.dll ... now, uninstall Xfinity.com Toolbar 3.5 by clicking on Control Panel > Programs and Features. It's not compatible with IE 8.
Next, using Window Explorer:
Go to C:\Program Files\xfinitytb <--- delete this folder and reboot/restart your computer.

I haven't had a chance to look over all items in both logs, but let me know if this problem still persists.

This is embarrassing but A) I cannot find "task manager" on my puter and B) cannot use control panel nor windows explorer. Did i not understand or is there a different name for the tm on vista?

Task manager, just use alt cntl delte at the same time, it will come up

Anyways..... I looked at task manager and processes - couldn't find xfinity.dll so i clicked on show processes for all users - still not there. I don't understand but simply deleting a .dll will allow me to use control panel and windows explorer?
