Hi digdug,

Sure :) It's completely free, and legal because you have a product key, so let's get going:

http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msoffice/pub/X14-63452/X14-63452.exe
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/msshus/vista32/boot.wim
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/msshus/vista32/install.wim

Download all of those files to your your root folder (usually C:\). It's quite a big download (~2GB if I remember correctly), so be warned.

Run the file X14-63452.exe, this will extract the files to the folder C:\Vista.

Then download this file: View attachment cdimage.EXE and also save this to your root folder (the same as before).

Then open up command prompt and run this command:

cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso

This will create your Vista ISO :) We have to strip a file from the ISO to allow you to install Home Premium from an Ultimate disc. To do this, download this file:

http://code.kliu.org/misc/winisoutils/eicfg_removal_utility.zip

Extract the file eicfg_remover.exe and run it by double clicking on it. It will ask you to open a file, navigate to, and select, the ISO file that we just made: C:\Vistax86.iso. After processing the file, it will save a new copy of the ISO. I can't remember what this file is called, the program might say the file name, if you are unsure just ask.

Then burn the newly created ISO to a blank DVD using this tutorial: Burning ISO Images with ImgBurn - Guides - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

Make sure you burn it with a low write speed!

If you don't have a blank DVD and want to use a USB instead, let me know.

Once you've done that, use this tutorial to do a repair install: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html

Thanks Tom,
Honestly I thought you were gonna point me to a way to buy the disc but im downloading the parts now.
Gonna take a bit but I should have a blank disc somewhere if not i'll post here with an update to ask about the usb part.

Just curious will this be a full reinstall eg will my files be erased or no
just want to know to make backups if need be.

Thanks again :),

Its an update install, all of your files will be saved in a folder called "Windows.old", but its still highly recommended to save a backup.

I attached a pic to explain what I mean.

Sorry for the late reply mate, I was at a festival for the weekend - well, until it was cancelled :(

I would recommend making backups anyway, you never know when things might go wrong!

Thanks for the screenshot, I know where I went wrong. Try this command:

C:\cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso

Should do the trick :)

lol, yeah, it's quite a hefty download!
