It is also very possible that these corruptions extend into the Servicing Store, the Components Sub-Hive, and the CBS in the Software Sub-Hive. Those sorts of corruptions are not possible to see from this log alone. I suspect them even more, because your Windows Update Error seems to have no real cause, and is therefore probably caused by something not seen by this log.

This level of corruption cannot be fixed.

There is a slight possibily that a Repair Install might just fix it, but keep full backups, just in case the Repair Install fails, and corrupts everything.

@Derekimo: Can you please do me a massive favour? I have got another two threads to do in 10 minutes. Do you mind awefully quickly getting the OP to check his hard disk -- I strongly suspect with this level of corruption -- and possibly explain Repair Install, Custom Install, and backups. I am really, really sorry for doing this to you. I promise to not do this again, but I am completely overstretched.

No recovery disks that I am aware of. We have always done a full recovery via PC utilities included.

First thing to do is get your information off the drive and on to another then we can try to repair and reinstall your operating system.
You may have to burn yourself an install disc, don't worry it is easy and I can show you how later.

I think they could be responsible for all errors shown and a disc check is required.
Right click on Local Disc C: and go to properties, tools and check both boxes to do a disc check at next start up

Interesting that I recently installed a Seagate 210 GeForce Graphic Card.
But that does not account for my partners Epson R260 also not responding and printing.
I guess we never expect more than a 3 yr run on any PC, especially since mine is now 4 yrs olde.
And Epson is notorious for timing out their printers and waste ink tanks.

Just read the Seagate info on Seatools. re: Loud Noisey Hard Drive being a precursor for problems.

OK ....... Did the disk check. It Ran a couple hours.
Last message seen at 100% scan indicated C: drive was now clean.
Next step will be the Hard Drive Check up at SeaTools.

Yes, unfortunately, they could be. It is not the printer at fault, and it should still work afterwards, but I do think that these corruptions are the problem :(

Also, the fact that chkdsk found errors to fix at all is also worrying. :huh:

How do I select the files to backup prior to doing a fresh start ?
Are the system and working files refreshed automatically ? And I need to only save those files I have created and or are Software I will need to reload after the refresh and new start ? I have done this 3x over the years and never seems to come out good :sick:
Fair ... but never good. Usually takes me a week or so to reload and replace all ... with some items never again found :)

OK If you have some favorite programs and you have the Installers for them (not the installed program just the installer) then you can save them, also any private files and folders you want to keep.
I normally save all my folders, take a snip of my start page,desktop and installed programs. Then I run Moz Backup to save all my FireFox bookmarks etc.
After an install I replace the empty program folders on the start menu with their correct programs.
It is the tweaks that I seem to forget but most are in my documents folder.

Everyone will have their own method of recovering all their favorite programs.
Once it is all up and running and how you like it I would recommend you take an image with Macrium Reflect to make the process a lot faster if you have to do it again.

Im new and confused...I have done 3 maybe 4 recoveries over the years and have never used anything but the Internal System Recovery within the PC ... Accessories > System Restore ?
Using Mozilla or other totally throws me at this point ?

OK as the system restore is failing all the time I think you should do a fresh install.
This is how.
First download ABR and save the file it makes to your external hard drive.
ABR (Activation Backup and Restore) | directedge.us
Save all you personal files and folders to the external drive.
Take a snapshot of your desktop,start menu,and programs folder.
Download Image Burn
The Official ImgBurn Website
If you have a friend that has a retail copy of Vista borrow that and using Image Burn make an .ISO of the disc.
Use image burn to burn the .ISO to a DVD
If you don't have a friend with a retail copy you need to download one.
The file you need to search for is.
LRMCFRE-EN-DVD.ISO Download
Then read this Tutorial by Brink and you will see what to expect to see at each stage.

After that has been installed there will be a lot of updates to download and install
After they have installed SP2 you can run the cleanup tool that is included with it.
Go to start Type cmd, hold shift and ctrl and press enter
type compcln.exe then Y to confirm.
This will remove the installers and you will not be able to remove SP2 after that.

EDIT:It should be noted you can only reinstall the version of Vista you had for it to be legal and it will be the only version the activation key you save with ABR will work on.

This above information is the same for anyone wanting to do a fresh install of their Vista operating system.

EDIT2: This will remove all OEM software You will only have Vista.

Yes it will fit. I have it as well and don't know if it is a retail install disc.
Any disc you use should have all versions of Vista on it BUT you will only be able to reinstall the version you had.
The activation key you saved with ABR will not work if you try to install any other.
I don't think a rescue disc will be good enough for a fresh install.
