Update killed Streets and Trips - why?

Hello, I am having trouble with Vista Ultimate (32 bit SP1) and MS Streets & Trips 2008 (S&T). After this week’s automatic up to Vista, S&T will no longer run. Invoking S&T yields this error, “Your registry settings for this application were not copied correctly. To correct these settings, run Setup again for this application from the location where you originally installed it.” I did this and that did not correct the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled S&T and that did not correct the problem. I then turned off “User Account Control” and I can now run S&T. When I turned User Account Control back on the problem returned.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can get S&T to run with User Account Control activated? Please note that ALL software on my computer is legitimate, legal and owned by me.
Thanks for reading and considering my questions.

Hi Stanley, Welcome to the Forum.

When you do the install right click on the .exe and select Run as Administrator

I hope this helps

Pooch,
Thanks for the recommendation. Before uninstalling and reinstalling (which might bring the wraith of MS down on my shoulders for too many installs in two days), taking you lead I tried something else – and it worked. I navigated to Program Files/Microsoft Streets & Trips, right clicked on Streets.exe and picked “Run as Administrator” and the program ran just fine. I will now try to and see if I can “repair” as an Administrator. I’ll let you know if this works.

I uninstalled Streets & Trips and reinstalled using the following method: on the DVD right click on “DVDRun.exe” and select “Run as Administrator.” I then followed all the screen prompts and when I tried to run S&T, I got the same problem ““Your registry settings for this application…”. I then went to “Program File/Microsoft Streets & Trips” and copied a shortcut of Street.exe to my desktop. I modified the properties to let me run the shortcut as an administrator and when I activate S&T it runs fine, except that the each time I have to respond to the popup asking me telling me to run the program as an Administrator. Seems silly, but at least it works.
Thanks for the help, Skip

The popup is known as the UAC which stops unwanted programs (virus's etc.) from running on your PC. According to Microsoft, manufacturers of programs should program their works to run without needing elevated permissions which trigger the UAC.
Enough said :)
