Cannot install Junk Email Filter KB970012

Hello,

I've tried dozen of times to install this update, but always failed. I have even downloaded it manually from Microsoft website, but no luck.

Any idea what might be causing the problem?
Office SP2 and Vista SP2 installations worked as a charm, no issues.

EDIT: This is the logfile I get:

Description:
An error report containing information about the updates that failed installation has been generated. Update for Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (kb970012) failed to install.

I don't know if this is related to Vista Business only or not, as my wife has Vista Home Premium and that filter went fine.

when I tried manual installation, everything started fine, but then in the middle of installation program crashed.

The problem is this update is marked as "important" so I get Windows Update notification all the time, of course I can hide this update, but it's not really a solution.

I have the same problem. I use AVG 8.5 but somehow I don't believe this is the problem. So far I am clueless.

I did install Service Pack 2 for Office 2007 though.

My Computer

I have NOD32, but this is not an issue, as I tried to install it while NOD was disabled. I have even disabled Comodo firewall as well, no luck.

What I have noticed, when I tried to update PerfectDisk (and Java also), it gave me some message that Microsoft Office has some pending installation (something like that, don't remember exactly).

As I said before, SP2 installation went totally fine (both for Vista and Office), and other updates were successfully installed except this one.

Cheers,
Miki

Yes, I have that thing with pending installation as well...

By the way, all of us have Vista 32 bit, SP2 installed, and Office 2007 SP2 installed...

Perhaps someone from MS will notice this thread after all...

Somehow I doubt :(, as quite many people have this spec. still only few of us are here. To be honest I was expecting more people joining discussing, offering solutions...

I've tried over 30 times to install it, crashes every single time . Any idea what is the cause of this? I don't know if this is related to SP2, but until I installed it, everything worked as a charm. I even run vista diagnostic tool (health report), everything seem in order: Generate A System Health Report In Vista :: Mysticgeek’s Realm

I'm running out of ideas.

Cheers,
Miki

I re-installed office 07 and outlook and now i cannot re-install microsoft sp2 or kb970012. I have been in contact w/someone from microsoft and everything they want me to try, i wind out w/errors. I might want to point out, i am not a computer wiz. Re-loading the programs was the only thing i could do. They are supposed to call me--i will you know if anything works.

you're talking about Office SP2 update, right? I thought I should reinstall my Office 2007, but was afraid for the same reason - "what if something goes wrong with SP2 installation, and what if I cannot install this $hitty filter again". All my hopes now are that MS will release another junk filter, so I can forget this one. They are not related, right?

yes, office sp2 my plan was to wait also, but the only place I am see anyone with problems is here. I went to the help in Outlook and sent an email to microsoft. They sent me several things to try. none worked for me.

Just a wild thought ...Install the Windows Installer 3.1 from the given link

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c)

restart the system and then try to apply the patch.

My Computer

Update, microsoft tech still haven't got it installed--continue tomorrow. The thought is that there is something wrong w/windows installer.
