Problems after Update KB981793

Since installing (KB981793) update to Vista on June 26th I have been having a few problems. (1) Security update for Office 2007 Powerpoint (KB982158) fails to install - returning error code 8007066F. (2) My financial software Quicken 2009 and now 2010 fails to start - "Quicken Launcher has stopped working". I am running Vista Home Premium SP2. Any ideas? (This is my first post; hope I did this correctly.)

Welcome to Vista Forums.

First try removing the update.

Here is a tutorial on how to do so:

Before re-installing the update, do the following:

Press the Windows Key + R

In the Run Command type: msconfig

Click the "Services" tab

Check the box entitled "Hide all Microsoft Services"

Click "Disable all"

Click "Apply"

Click " Ok"

Restart your computer and re-install the update.

After you install the update and are prompted to restart, I would suggest restarting one more time.

You can re-enable the services using the same method.

I think the only solution for you is reinstall Office,if you have any problems with uninstalling this use "MS Fix it" from this site:How do I uninstall the 2007 Office suites if I cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature?

I too have had the same problem with Vista 32 bit Home Pre + Service Pack 2.
I was directed to and did, turn off the User Account Manager in the control panel. Rebooted and ran the update.
After that I turned the User Account back on, rebooted and now the Windows Update program says my computer is, Up to Date but there was a failed attempt to load a update.

I have spent way too much time on this... T hink I am happy right now but;

In the process I tried to log on to MircoSoft and give them my product key in order to ask for help. I got a response that there was something wrong with my product number.

That confuses me just as bad as the update situation before. I would hate to pay them $50 just to find out it was a stupid error and I too am wondering if I now need to update to Windows 7.
