Would it be a bad idea to run vista without updates? I have been having problems and i suspect its an update making my OS unstable

No Archy, I remembe trying to help you with your update problem, but you should try to have them. At least the security upadates. To run without them, you will have problems and that is guaranteed.

Well I just don't want to troubleshoot every single update, since vista has so many, and it might not even be the problem :/

has there been any confirmed updates that were "bad"? I suspect it was a recent update(probably early sept) because I hadn't installed any new hardware, or programs to cause instability, and even on a 1 week old install(took about 1 week to get all updates(didnt pay attention))

If there were any updates that were intrinsically bad, we would have had many questions and comments about it and that did not happen. While I have Windows Seven a friend has Vista and she has no problems.

But it is still possible that it's an update?

Yes it is. What I was trying to say its not a bad update, but your computers reaction to it.

We have had many situations where updates have cause problems, but not limited to specific updates.

Anyway to diagnose it other than testing individual updates?

I think the easiest way to test. Is to uninstall all the pontential problem updates by using the traditional method or System Restore. Then put 1/4 of them back, if computer still works, put another 1/4 in. When you find the batch with the bad update, you must go one by one.
