Xerox Phaser 8400

I'm trying to install a Zerox Phaser 8400 on the network, it has a static IP address, I downloaded the latest drivers from zerox and I have been able to install it on 3 other machines with no problems but on the one machine I get the error "Could not Install Printer; 0X000003EB error code. I did a search on the code but I'm not finding any help. Anyone got any ideas, getting rid of the printer is not an option:). Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Hoyt54, and welcome to the forums.

Try a manual install. Go to Control Panel -> Printer (a new window shows up) -> Add printer (from top toolbar) and follow th steps to install a network printer (second option). Stop the automatic search and select the option "The printer is not on the list". In the next screen select the 3rd option (Add a TCP/IP printer) and fill the information for the printer-s IP address. When it asks you for the drivers, just point to the location where you installed/decompressed your printer's setup program.

Cheers,

In just tried your suggestion and unfortunately I still get the same error. What really blows my mind is that I have installed this same printer on 3 different Vista machines and I only get the error on this one. Anyway, thanks for the response.:D

I am sorry. I've made the common mistake of not checking everything when I first replied. The Xerox Phaser 8400 is not compatible with Vista (natively) so you need to make certain things by hand.

First, download the correct drivers which can be found here. Get the ones almost at the end of the page called "Windows PostScript PPD Driver Files - 32/64-bit". Now, you have to erase whatever is left from your prevous installation attempts.

Go to Printers, richt click on any printer and go to Ports. Look for the "Sandard TCP/IP port" that's pionting to your printer's IP port. If it's there, select it and eliminate it. If it's not, better ;)

Now install it by using your new drivers and remember the path for the installation so you can re-try it by hand using the method I posted above. As usuall in Vista, run the installation as an Administrator (right click -> Run as Admin.)

Hope it helps,

Thanks again for your responce. I tried the different drivers and I still get the same error message, I tried installing it manually as an Administrator and I thought it was going to take because it took awhile but then BAM the same stupid error. I don't think the error is caused by the network becuase I can ping the printer, I staring the think I might have to re-image the computer which will be a real pain due to all of the programs this person uses for their job.

Go to add printers.
click on add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer.

Format... if your've tried everything now and things haven't changed since your originall post, then it's something with your registry that cannot be fixed (registry cleaners don't see as broken). I could suggest you something else to try before formatting but it will probably leave you with the format option anyhow. You could try and edit the network adapter's options (change speeds, priorities, addresses, etc.) and see if there is some incompatibility there.

I get the same error with a similar setup (vista business 32, xerox phaser 8400), but I have connected the printer via USB, not LAN.

Hoyt54, did you solve the problem meanwhile?
Any suggestions?

duff

that guy probably isnt going to see this. Your best bet would be to start a new thread. You would get more responses and he would be more likely to see it

Just a friendly heads up
