If you had a good video card (Nvidia), you wouldn't have this problems... ;)

But I am only kidding of course... seriously! I am :o :p

Anyways, sometimes, the problem with the games is not Vista. Believe you me, I have my issues with Vista and sometimes, I want to go crying back to Vista but, because Vista plays very well with the games and this is why I went to Vista in the beginning, I can honestly tell you that some games are just not coded correctly or they have been ported extremely poor.

Chances are that if you visit the Need For Speed forums, you will find that others are having the same issues as you are, then again, some aren't. The thing is that you may need to update to the latest patch they have or may be able to find solutions since all they do is talk about that game in particular.

Good Luck and don't give up on Vista just yet... even though is getting harder and harder not to! :D

Vista runs just fine :). I seriously dont know why so many people have problems with it. If you set it up correctly it will run fine and is loads more stable than XP.

Update all your drivers, update your programmes, clean out the trash, defrag everything then tweak it and you'll have no problems.

Hi DarkCrystal,

It maybe that you are trying to run the game under 64 bit architecture which the game may not like. have you tried changing the compatability setting to xp service pack 2 as that SHOULD help I have done that for many games within vista as I use Vista Ultimate x64. Also as AstaLaVista mentions some games just aren't coded correctly which is a shame especially for good games.

Thanks for all responses.
I have installed a few days before Vista.
Updated all drivers few times, re-installed the game and it's not working.
For example, Call of Duty 4 works only in multi and the single not work ..
I do not have enough power to work with the system .. I just want to play.

In any way .. I give up and going back to XP
Even I do not want to.

And again.. sorry about the English.

I have call of duty 5 installed on my pc and when i tried to run it initially all i got was a white screen. I fixed that problem by doing the following:

Click on the vista start orb and in the search bar type sound and click on the sound programme.

Click the audio device in use and then click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and lower the format. I set mine to 24 bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality). Then click Apply then OK then click OK on the open window.

That should allow you to play the game but if not then keep lowering the quality level of the sound till it does.

Update all your drivers, update your programmes, clean out the trash, defrag everything then tweak it and you'll have no problems.

Therein lies the Problem (I think), XP while less stable it is more user friendly than Vista... at least for us Mere Mortals.

I think Microsoft screwed the pouch big time because of this reason more than the heavy requirements vista has. For the layman, Vista sure is a heavy burden. Can you imagine asking all the Baby Boomers to tweak here and there? :p

Hi DarkCrystal,

Also as AstaLaVista mentions some games just aren't coded correctly which is a shame especially for good games.

I guess I have been blessed, I have not had to use the Compatability for any of the games I have played... pretty much all of the FPS PC Games out there.

I have call of duty 5 installed on my pc and when i tried to run it initially all i got was a white screen. I fixed that problem by doing the following

Stew2, if I remember correctly, this was an issue with CoD5 only, never with CoD4... at least, I don't recall having it.

@ argowen, I can honestly say that I don't blame you for wanting to go back to XP but, again :o, try to hang on just a little longer to Vista, more so if you are a gamer. With the help of these folks here, you can't go wrong. All you need to do is:

Stick with us a while longer and try your best to give us all the information you can about your problem, what have you tried to do, how did you do it, you know... give us the Blow by Blow of the situation and I am confident that we (well, ok... they) can get you out of the slump.

Re: Recommended Updates

Ok, what tried to do is install the drivers of the video card at first.
after that, The game worked and I thought the problem is gone.
But unfortunately, the problem is not resolved and after the restart the game don't worked.
Only the multiplayer of COD4 worked.
After that I installed the SP1 and tried again I did restart,
and more time not working. I installed all the software told me, I installed the. NET 3.5 and more ..
Probably does not help anything.
I enjoyed using Vista with grief and goes with the simple reason: most games do not work.
I really appreciate the help.

Yeah i suppose you right. Vista is bloated when you first get it running, but if you spend the first day setting it up properly then it'l run perfect for years. The problem is people install it on pc's that can barely run XP then complain or install it and update no drivers etc and then complain or well you see where this going lol

As for COD4 i dont know. I have that on ps3 but got COD5 for the pc and just thought it might also apply.

My Computer

DarkCrystal i seen the post on the other thread.

Most games do work on Vista especially the newer ones. Its only really old games that sometimes dont work but COD4 and Need For Speed should definately work.

For COD4 to work you need the disk in the dvd drive for singleplayer but not multiplayer. Make sure you update the game fully as well with latest patches - COD4 PATCHES

My Computer

Thanks to everyone for the help.
I decided to switch to XP I have a few minutes.
I'm still sorry that I can't use Vista .. Maybe
Next time I will install the 32bit version

Thank you again,
Dark Crystal.

Going back to XP is never as good as what people believe.

Vista x64 is the best you can get :D When you install vista and your at the desktop install only your Security software then do everything it says in this link: Performance Updates (If you need help with any of the steps then just ask)

Once you've done all that then install the games you want and they should run fine.

My Computer

So what can the problem be encountered in which the previous time?

An issue with the game, drivers, runtime libraries, corrupt OS etc. the list is almost endless.

By doing a clean install then following the guide i gave you, your ensuring vista is fully up to date with no additional programmes on it before installing your game. This reduces the chance of any software conflicts.

My Computer

Thanks for all your help.
