Hi,
I'm running Vista Business on a Compaq(HP) nx9600 laptop. Recently, I started to generate periodic "Blue Screen" shutdowns/reboots. (These are not the 'normal' sort of BS with a message & a series of Hex numbers - this is just a totally blank blue screen.) I had a Problems & Solutions message indicating that I might want a BIOS update, but when I went to HP's support page, I found that I could only access updates via their updater.
Step 1 in installing the updater is to run a program, sp39259.exe, which is to install their "Help" function. When I try running this, I first see a command prompt window headed Windows\system32\Cscript.exe. Following this, I get a Windows Installer message that reads "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable." When I click the OK button, I get a Windows Script Host message " 'null' is null or not an object."
Can anyone help me to complete the installation? HP won't help, because the notebook is out of warranty and I upgraded from the original XP to Vista on my own.
TIA
