BSOD when I install 2nd stick of RAM

I will start with what my issue is first. I have a new system that is running Vista Ultimate x64. I was having issues when I first built the machine with getting very random BSOD with IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS (0x0000000A). I had gone through and made sure that I installed all the lastest drivers from Gigabyte's website. So I went with possibly having bad RAM. (I am running 2x2048mb) Following this train of thought I ran a memstest, which came back with some errors. So I returned the memory and exchanged it for the same type.

I put the new RAM in, both sticks, and i get the same BSOD. I did a little research and found some information about Vista x64 having issues running with more than 3gb of RAM. So I start from scratch. Formatted my hard drives, put only one stick of RAM in (so 1x2048) and installed Vista again. Keep in mind that I am installing a copy of Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1, which should not have issues with more than 3gb of RAM.

So I get Vista installed, get all my drivers and even my programs installed and the system is running great. I use the computer for a day with no issues. So I decided to try putting in the other stick of RAM. I get the same BSOD. So now i'm thinking maybe BIOS update. So I go to gigabyte's site download and install the latest BIOS update. Doesn't help.

My next thought was to try a different brand of memory, just for kicks. Did that and that didn't help. So i'm sitting here with a sweet computer that doesn't want to run with more than 1 stick of RAM.

Current System Specs:
Gigabyte EP45-UD3p Intel P45 Socket 775 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 3Ghz 6MB 1333FSB CPU
BFG GeForce GTX 260 OCX 896MB
Corsair Dominator Dual Channel 4096MB PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz
Corsair TX750W Power Supply

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Any information I left out I will gladly provide. Thanks.

IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS

This means you have a bad/buggy driver.
Try reinstalling updated Video card drivers/SATA/RAID Drivers, etc.

I have updated all drivers, if its a driver error why does it only happen when I have the second stick of RAM installed?
Have you been using reg cleaners? these can corrupt the Windows driver pool. (as can malware/viruses)

What IRQ means....

Abbreviation of interrupt request line, and pronounced I-R-Q. IRQs are hardware lines over which devices can send interrupt signals to the microprocessor. When you add a new device to a PC, you sometimes need to set its IRQ number by setting a DIP switch. This specifies which interrupt line the device may use. IRQ conflicts used to be a common problem when adding expansion boards, but the Plug-and-Play specification has removed this headache in most cases.

So, in your case one of your installed devices, has a bad/buggy driver that is sending bad interupt signals to the processor.

Do the sticks match? I purchased my computer with 64 bit. It had 4 gig ram unganged. I added 4 more gig unganged and it runs fine. Check your motherboard documentation on adding more RAM.

Yes the sticks match, they are part of a dual channel set purchased together.

You guys-

Its an IRQL stop error- this is due solely to a bad interupt command sent to the processor from a device with a bad/buggy driver. I suggest you check those.

If you want more info on the BSOD, and the device causing it go here:

note- the dump file for this is located @ C:\Windows\Minidump

I run 16GB of RAM in Vista x64 Ultimate on a Supermicro X7DWA-N board.

I would recommend for your CPU bus this Kingston RAM

Description:4GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 DIMM (Kit of 2) Detailed Specifications:Standard 256M X 64 Non-ECC 667MHz 240-pin Unbuffered DIMM (DDR2, 1.8V, CL5) (Datasheet)

    Graphics Card(s)
eVGA 8800 GTS 640 MB video card
    Hard Drives
    SAS RAID
This is what the mini dump analysis:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffff9a7fffffffea, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, bitfield :
bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff80001c7cd17, address which referenced memory

Does this mean anything to anyone/help?

Vista can be picky on RAM. The RAM I mentioned below was chosen from the list of RAM matched to your board. You want to match your RAM spec and CPU spec for best performance. I run 8 sticks of Kingston ECC 2GB DDR667 RAM on my board. My E5430 Xeons are 1333 FSB. 667 MHz is the best for 1333 FSB.

What did your motherboard documentation say about adding RAM? My slots were #1 filled with stick and #3 filled with a stick. Total of 4 gig. Unganged mod in the BIOS. I added another 2 gig in Slot #2 and Slot #4 unganged. This is how pairs need to work together on my particular board. Perhaps yours is the same.

The point of the above example is the IRQL stop error can be a result of software drivers too. Do not focus just on the memory.
Again IRQL stop errors are a result of a bad/buggy driver. If it was the Memory-you would have recieved BSOD's relating to memory (i.e., BCCode: 24
BCP1: 00000000001904AA), which can be caused by a bad memory stick-resulting in the depletion of pooled memory.

"possible cause is depletion of nonpaged pool memory. If the nonpaged pool memory is completely depleted, this error can stop the system. However, during the indexing process, if the amount of available nonpaged pool memory is very low, another kernel-mode driver requiring nonpaged pool memory can also trigger this error."

"a nonpaged pool memory depletion problem: add new physical memory to the computer (thus increasing the quantity of nonpaged pool memory available to the kernel)"

Again, even the above Windows reference for IRQL points to a bad/buggy driver...

"This error may also be caused by a bad or incompatible controller..." (i.e., SATA/RAID storage controller driver)

This error may also be caused by a bad or incompatible controller, failing or over clocked memory, or a piece of hardware that Vista does not support. Removing and disconnecting non essential hardware during install may be helpful.

It is possible the memory is DOA. Again, I would consult the website for your motherboard. Perhaps others have the same issue with memory.
