bottleneck cpu

I haev a GTS 250 but not a very good CPU, AMD Athlon 4400+ 2.3GHz. What CPU (amd,(am2 or am2+)) would run good with this card?

I am thinking about

Would that be good?

assuming your mobo supports that cpu then yes it will be better than the one you have , will you notice any improvement ingame? im not so sure , cpu bottleneck is a much discussed subject and will depend very much on the game you are playing ,

make sure your mobo and bios support it before upgrading , i have no experiance with Dell stuff

Not a whole lot of info, but there is a bios update for that board,

only thing it says is "support new cpu". As to which new cpu is anyone's guess.

no mate it might not , the problem could be that your bios wont recognise it and therefore wont be able to automatically implement the correct settings , differant architecture requires differant hardware settings (voltage/fsb speed) Your bios implements these settings upon first bootup , if your bios was written before that cpu was available then it wont recognise it , thats what bios updates are for.

Just because it has the same pin configuration doesnt mean its the same architecture , make sure you check


edit , it seems your pc has the ASUS M2N61-AX mobo which is specifically designed for Dell (they do that alot) and as stormy has pointed out Dell dont seem to be saying much about their new bios update , i would make sure you get in touch with them before spending any cash , to be honest i dont think they'll support it , let us know how you get on mate

Reason for that is they want you to buy a new computer, not be able to upgrade certain parts of it.

Oh and before you ask, no you will not find a bios update from Asus for your motherboard, the only place to get that from is Dell. Even if you did manage to find one from someplace else, your copy of Windows would no longer be licensed and activated.
