Does deleting a shortcut delete the program?
For example: I went to All Programs, HP, Deskjet 4200 series, Smart Web Printing, and under Type was listed Shortcut. If I delete it, does that delete the program?

Hello Moose,

No, it will only delete the shortcut instead. A shortcut only points to the program and is not the actual program exe file.

1. Where are shortcuts shown other than icons on the desktop?

2. In a "tree" listing, if a file is named shortcut (for example HP Smart Web Printing shortcut), then if I delete that, the Smart Web Listing Program will remain?

1) You can have a shortcut in your user folder, or you can create one.

2) It will stay. Make sure its a shortcut though. Open up Recycle Bin and you'll see it there with a shortcut arrow, unless you Shift+Delete.

Does a shortcut always have the twisted arrow?

Yes by default, but not in the Start Menu though. All listed programs are all shortcuts in the Start Menu.

If you are not sure, right click on the shortcut > Properties > General tab - there it should say "shortcut (link)" under "type of file".
