Please help

Kilkun

New Member
Hello, as my title has stated i need some troubleshooting. I've spent many hours on Google trying to find a solution to a little dilemma, but alas no cigar. see, i realize that its not extremely urgent, however, a couple months ago, windows vista updated. now Im used to these monthly updates however, this one completely removed all customizability out of the windows vista skin. now i would like to know what on earth is going on here! i worked hard to get my theme just how i like it then windows comes walking up and breaks it all down. i figured before giving my beloved laptop a hard reset i'd consult some professional forums. so please, if you have a solution, state it !

did you in some manner patch the uxtheme.dll followed by installing a service pack(s)? if you patched, you did create a restore point, right? if you didn't set a restore point, you did at least back up the Uxtheme.ddl , themeui.dll , shsvcs.dll, right?

1. try to restore your system to earlier time
2. see if vista glazz will work to patch your system uxtheme to one that's compatible with the service pack you're running
3. try to restore the
Uxtheme.ddl , themeui.dll , shsvcs.dll, if you backed them up

anyone else have any ideas?

Yes, but it's a tough one, because the update installation occured a couple of months ago. But, if you can identify the update Kilkun, you can uninstall it and then reinstall it. Take a look at your Windows Updates folder, and go to View Update History. There you can troubleshoot the update, and remove it, if you can identify it.

Otherwise, you might have to bite the bullet and reconfigure your customization settings, but here's a word to the wise for future updates: Don't install more than one update a day, so that you will always have time to see if the update causes any problem, and deal with it right then.

Ahh yes, i would love to however i cannot shut down or "sleep" my computer unless it installs the 3 updates that came up that day. however i like both ideas and am trying them now.
