In addition you may want to use malwarebytes. You will have excellent protection with the two pieces of software installed.

i used avast and spybot search and destroy, can i also used malwarebytes together with those i have?

Yes you can have as many spy-ware programs as you please, however you can only have 1 (one) anti-virus installed at a time otherwise they conflict and cause you headaches lol.

Good security software is no security software at all. I've used computers extensively the latest 10 years without anti-virus and never had any problems at all. Just see to that you don't double-click a virus (very easy) and you don't need any "anti-virus".

Maybe other users, like myself, like the double protection of common sense and an anti virus.

That is not a very good idea, because 1 careless move and you're sunk. Plus viruses come in a number of different forms, not just exe files. True, common sense is essential, but having a good security program is also pretty important.

You're absolutely right about that one mistake is enough, but in my opinion, anti-virus software infects a computer to an unacceptable degree - worse than mosts viruses :P and IF i some day would get a virus, my important files are on an external hdd, and thinking of the years of pain i've saved not using an anti-virus software, I would happily reinstall some OS and my normal programs in about an hour...

On a corporate computer though, it's a good idea to install anti-virus.

jonathan, what more ways of viruses were you considering btw?
The only thing I feel a bit worried about are the security holes in windows, but those arent really easy enough to just execute code and stuff right away (like the random generator not being random in generating keys for instance)..
Earlier one could include executable segments in a jpg header, but from what i know of such things are quite rare now. All in all (if one does not do anything really stupid) its really hard to get a virus.

I agree most A/V are worse than the the danger they protect us from. That being said, I do not think the MSE combined with malwarbytes falls into that catergory. Neither is a resouce hog or insidious like most other protection software.
