Indexing issue

Facing problems regarding searching email in Microsoft Outlook. I think this is due to Indexing. I have tried to rebuild the Indexing but it shows 0 item indexed all the time. Now my questions are as below :

1) How much time it takes to rebuild the Indexing ? My approx. MS Outlook .pst file size is around 2.8 GB.
2) i had a virus called warm.silly.nisan in SeachProtocolHost.exe. Does this effect indexing or searching email in MS Outlook ?
3) I was stressed due to this problem and tryied to "rebuild" Indexing but it was taking more than 24 hrs and so i went to Indexing options in Control panel and then in advance options i did "Restore Defaults". Which also took to much time and all the times it shows "o items indexed". Can anyone tell me what is the acually problem in indexing ?
4) Do this indexing has any relation with "regedit". If yes then what are the files in regedit i have to check and for what parameters.?

Hi maulikp,
It sounds like when you cleaned the worm you lost some bytes in
MS Outlook. The first thing I would try, is to go into save mode and do a last good configuration. It could be as simple as that.

Hi Gil777t,

I did what you instructed but got below feedback :

"System Resotre did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details:
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore."

Let me know what to do now ?

The most effective way now would be to save all your pertinent
files since you cleaned out the worm, and do a system file restore from a backup disk. The software you used to expunge the worm also took bits of outlook files in the process. You could also copy a friends MS outlook express via a flash drive and insert it in your registry that way. You must be using the same Operating System as well as the same Service Pack. It's just not practical trying to find broken strings, or partial missing values. You could spend days or weeks, and still never get it working right. Sorry, been there did that.

Re: Index - Windows Search Service

Hi,

i am not able to search email and file in vista after i got virus of warm.silly.nisan which effects the file SearchProtocolHost.exe. This virus was clearned on 15th February, 2010 and after that i was not able to search my email which i received after 12th February, 2010. So i tried to rebuild the index and waited for almost 24 Hrs but all the time it shows o Item Indexed. Indexing Complete. Then i did Restore Defaults to Restore my original indexing settings but then also i am not able to search any file or emails. All the time it shows 0 Item Indexed. Indexing Complete.

Can you please let me know what should i do now ?

Regards,
Maulik
