Solved Jumping cursor

New Member
I have an ACER lap top with Window Vista. When I am typing, whether it may be e-mail messages or any word document, the cursor jumps all over the place. I have to bring it back and keep a constant watch over it. I installed a new mouse, but no improvements. Has anyone else experienced similar problem, and any solutions?

Several things to check
Go to search and type device manager
Go to the mouse driver; up to date and functioning correctly?

Run an antivirus scan but update first and make it a full scan
Download and scan with a full malwarebytes scan

Unattach from the internet and see if it happens. This is an important one

Make sure that battery in mouse is new

Make sure that touch pad is not too sensitive; have seen this many times
Type event viewer in search and in the adminsitrative tab look for errors

Try a different port.

If you are using a mouse, you probably don't need the touchpad (at least at that time). Go to Start / Control Panel / Mouse and find the controls for the touchpad and deactivate it entirely (or, if the option exists, deactivate it only if it detects another pointer device connected). See if that works. I had the same problem and eventually discovered that my palms were touching the touchpad as I typed and thus moving the cursor - deactivating the touchpad (when it detects another pointing device attached) worked like a charm.

I agree with Lorien, that is the reason that I asked if touchpad was too sensitive
