How do I disable the appskey (right click context menu key) on my keyboard?

How do I disable the appskey (right click context menu key) on my keyboard? I have no need to (and I don't know why anyone would) right click using the keyboard. And I keep hitting it while typing a capital letter (when I miss the shift key), which brings up a menu and either stops me typing or causes me to select something I didn't want to on the context menu. Oh for the days when keyboards had less keys and you could use the gaps to orientate your fingers!

Hi,

If you have the desktop space use an external keyboard & mouse!

This is not a laptop, it's a desktop. And I don't want to change keyboard, I like this one.

Hello hucker,
I am learning still, but, have you tried this ? HERE: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/77881-windows-hotkeys.html

That only applies to key combinations involving the windows key. I'm talking about the key on the bottom right of the keyboard, just to the left of the control key. The one that opens a menu like right clicking with your mouse does.

You can disable it using a one line AutoHotKey script that sits in the tray.

You can download the latest AHK here:
AutoHotkey_L

I recommend the AutoHotKey_L variant as it has new features.

Anyway this is the script:

AppsKey::return

That's it. Compile it. Drag a shortcut to StartUp folder so it will start when you log on. Every time you hit the Application Menu key, nothing will happen. It just "eats" the key.

edit: btw in case anyone is reading, AutoHotKey_L should work on XP or later Windows. You can compile 32 bit or 64 bit programs with it. The interpreter engine is compiled into the .exe. So if you get an av program flagging it, that's why. It sees a script engine in the .exe.

No, your fix worked easily and perfectly. You receive a pat on the back (or wherever you prefer pats).
