Computer freezes and verticle lines appear on screen. - Help! - Pictures.

Hey guys,

My computer will randomly freeze, and lines appear on the screen. I took a picture to show you'll guys..

I've read it could be a graphics card problem, maybe a monitor problem? Someone mentioned a motherboard problem. The only thing I can do is turn it off by holding the Power button.

Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

EDIT. Just froze again, this time no lines. I unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in. Didn't change anything.

I actually have a new graphics card and PSU on the way, Was planning on upgrading so I can edit HD video. Etc.

Hi,

The memory on the graphics card looks damaged. So, you are seem to be taking the correct action by replacing the graphics card.

Have updated the drivers for this card?
Do you need to? What drivers do you have installed?

Please let us know what make & model the card is & we might be able to assist you & find a new driver.

Is new drivers necessary even though I have a new graphics card coming? The one I have now is a nvidia geforce 6150se integrated.

I guess this is the newest driver? http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-32bit-285.62-whql-driver.html

My video card should be in tomorrow, I'll install and see what happens. Would I need to update my driver even though I'm putting a new video card in?

Hi,

Well that looks like a bargain. Please validate your power supply is greater than the minimum needed: -

Minimum PSU Wattage Requirement: 300 Watt

OK.

Yes. My new PSU came in today. It's a Cool Master Exreme Power Plus 500 watts.

:D

I found some tutorials on how to disable on board graphics cards.

Is there anything "special" for an eMachines?

Hi,

No not that I am aware of.

If you find the setting in the BIOS & de-activate it the onboard graphics, the new one should start-up with no issues.

You might have to update the drivers for your new card once installed, as the ones on the CD disk could already be out of date!
