Well said Neil. I appreciate everyone who's donated so far. You've made a big difference. I'd like to see at least 25 more members donate $25 USD~$50 USD each towards Shawn's computer. We're nearing the time when the new system will come alive and Shawn will be equipped to continue his terrific work here. Everyone, please take note that we have an even faster mail in option. For anyone who doesn't have a credit or debit card to use with Paypal you can mail your money orders to:

Vista Forums
Shawn Brink Fund
Mail to address closed

Be sure your money payee line is blank or payable to cash. This will make the transformation of your money order to electronic form faster, since we'll complete the paypal donation on your behalf. Once your mailed in payment is processed, a thank you note will be posted in this thread and in a PM to z3r010 so your supporter tag is added to your membership. (Be sure to include your forum name in your mail in donation so we know who to give the credit to)

We're almost there. Even small donations make a difference. Become a supporter today!

Thank you once again to everyone who's joined us as a supporter

Ah well darnit, I'm sober now and my wife is back from Chicago (she confiscated my new card) so we'll just have to stick with the original 150 I sent lol.

I DO however have a Soundblaster Live that I would be more than happy to send you if you want it (dead serious wild man). I pulled it out of my old computer and replaced it with an XFi, but to be truthful, the Live is still a great card and I' don't know that I can hear much difference with the XFi.

That's a sweet case. Just out of curiousity, can you (or anybody lol) use two power supplies for one computer? Run say the MoBo/processor and such off of one and then componenets and/or Vid card off the other? the 9800gx2's actually take two direct connections from the PSU. Say in your case, you wanted to upgrade something and it exceeeded the limits of your 500W psu. Obviously you can buy another 500w for 50-60 bucks while a 1000w costs around 300-400. (wow, I just saw a 500w on newegg for $39). So is it possible to do so? Assuming there is enough room in the case of course........

Bubba,

LOL, oh well. That's ok. Save the sound card. You never know when you might need it for something.

Sure it's possible to use two power supplies, but I do not know how any sleep mode would work (or most likely not work) on the one not connected to the motherboard though. It would be best to get a more powerful single PSU to avoid this. :(

Hello everyone,

For the life of me I can't figure out how to have a "kinda sorta" super computer.

So I think we need to help Brink get that 10K HDD and the extra 4 GB RAM.

I am going to put my money where my mouth is! Tomorrow I am going to put another
25.00 in the post for this very purpose. That will bring my total to 75.00 US.

Is there anyone else that will help out ??? Post here to let us know.

Shawn we'll work on the flame thrower next... ;)

.Joe I'll PM you in a day or so about this.

EDIT: I just saw Brinks new WEI score; http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/96219-window-experience-index-scores-30.html#post702593
It's a shame he can't have 5.9 all the way !!!

I would get a fast hard drive (10000 RPM), bump memory up to 8 GB RAM, add an exhaust pipe on top of the case that shoots flames.

Later  Ted

Yeah I'm kind of disappointed myself Barefoot kid. Z-man started it off with 200 I think, I added 150, some others added a 100 or so and a few others donated what they could as well. But with what? 1500 members or something using and benefiting from this site? One would think the total could be higher. If everyone that Brinks has helped donated just 5 bucks, I think he could buy a sizable chunk of Microsoft, much less a computer.

Some folks have no honor, what can I say? I mean if you can afford a computer and internet service, you can sure as hell afford 5 bucks to help out the man who helped you out, and if you didn't need help you wouldn't have sought this site out in the FIRST place. Yeah, other folks and moderators, help people out, but obviously the other mods are down with the idea of the donations going to buy Shawn a rig as is Z-man. (Sorry z- man, that z followed by other stuff which isn't a word, some upper case, some lower, a few numbers thrown in, a dash or two I think, is too much for my dumb ass to remember, no disrespect intended).

OK Shawn, you don't want (or need) the card, that's cool. I'll give it to someone else. I don't need it for anything and some one does so I'll pass it on elsewhere lol.

EDIT: LOL Barefoot, need a sound card?

Is it too late to donate now?
I have 25 or 50 bucks I'd be willing to part with for the help he's given me.
