hard disk space going

Hi guys,
I have a problem i reformatted my whole c drive and then clean installed vista ultimate onto it and at start i had 268Gb out of 274Gb now its gone to 243Gb and i've only installed a couple of programs and when i highlight everything in the c drive it says its 7.38GB so there must be something wrong. I've Defragged it a lot of times and the space keeps on going down.

any help will be appreciated.

i've got another partition which has roughly 2Gb on it and i wanted to know how i could merge it with the c drive if possible.

Here's an answer courtesy of dmex !

The Gparted LiveCD makes a damm good partition manager for moving/resizing/deleting/formatting any partiton from Windows/Linux or OSX on any hard-drive...

use the complete pc backup option instead of system restore if you can. System restore is never actually capable of restoring to that crucial point just before you started having a problem with your system so i disable it. Even with 1tb of hd space!
